Where to play Crazy Pineapple in the US

Showing 12 of 21 venues

Crazy Pineapple is a live poker variant that plays like Texas Hold'em with one key difference: each player receives three hole cards instead of two and must discard one after the flop. The extra card increases pre-flop hand strength and the frequency of drawing hands, creating more action and larger pots. Crazy Pineapple is played in both limit and no-limit formats, and occasionally in pot-limit. It is most commonly found in mixed-game rotations and home games rather than as a standalone spread in casino poker rooms. You'll find live tables at most major properties. See our full US casino directory for venue contact details and hours.

Crazy Pineapple takes the familiar structure of Texas Hold'em and adds a strategic twist: every player gets three hole cards but must discard one after seeing the flop. The extra hole card means starting hands are much stronger on average, and the frequency of flush draws, straight draws, and two-pair combinations increases significantly. After the discard, the game is pure Hold'em with two hole cards and five community cards. Crazy Pineapple is part of the Pineapple family of poker variants, which also includes regular Pineapple (discard before the flop) and Lazy Pineapple (discard after the turn).

How to play Crazy Pineapple

  1. Each player is dealt three hole cards instead of two. The extra card means stronger starting hands across the table.

  2. The first betting round (pre-flop) proceeds identically to Texas Hold'em, with blinds and a round of action.

  3. Three community cards are dealt in the flop. After the flop betting round, every player must discard one of their three hole cards, face down.

  4. After discarding, each player has exactly two hole cards remaining. The rest of the hand proceeds exactly like Texas Hold'em.

  5. The turn and river are dealt, with betting rounds after each. The best five-card hand using hole cards and community cards wins.

  6. The discard decision is the strategic crux. Choose wrong and you gave up equity. Choose right and you have a premium two-card hand.

Crazy Pineapple Rules and Betting

Crazy Pineapple uses the same betting structure as the base game. In a limit Crazy Pineapple game, bets are fixed at structured amounts. In a no-limit game, players can bet any amount up to their stack at any time. The only difference from No-Limit Holdem or Limit Holdem is the extra hole card and the mandatory discard after the flop betting round.

After the flop betting round, each player discards one card face down. The dealer will prompt you: do not discard before the betting round finishes. Once all players have discarded, the turn is dealt and the hand continues as standard Hold'em. Players who fold during the flop betting round do not discard. The discard phase is a fixed moment between the flop betting round and the dealing of the turn. If a player forgets to discard before the turn is dealt, the card closest to the dealer in the player's hand is typically burned or the hand is ruled dead, depending on house rules.

Editorial Strategy

Strategy & etiquette for Crazy Pineapple

  • Pre-flop hand selection changes because you start with three cards. Suited connectors and one-gappers become significantly stronger.

  • The discard decision after the flop is the most important moment in the hand. Evaluate which two cards give you the best expected value against the board texture.

  • Paired boards change discard logic. If you hold a pair and the board pairs, your two-pair hand is strong. Keep the pair and the card that gives the best kicker or draw potential.

  • Flush draws with three suited cards pre-flop are common. After the flop, if you missed the flush, discard the irrelevant suited card.

  • Three-card straight draws pre-flop create more wrap potential. After the flop, keep the two cards that complete the most straight combinations.

  • Position matters as much as in Hold'em. The extra card means you see more flops, but you still want to play most hands from late position.

Crazy Pineapple Strategy

The third hole card changes starting-hand selection dramatically. Hands that are marginal in Hold'em become playable in Crazy Pineapple because three cards create more opportunities to connect with the flop. Suited cards gain value because you are more likely to hold multiple cards of the same suit. Broadway cards (Ten through Ace) gain value because they make more straight and two-pair combinations.

The discard is the defining strategic moment. After the flop, you evaluate which two of your three cards give the best expected value. If you flop top pair with a medium kicker and also hold a flush draw with two of your cards, compare the immediate value of the pair against the drawing potential of the flush. Flush draws with two suited hole cards have roughly 35 percent equity to improve by the river, which often outweighs a weak top-pair hand. Two-pair hands on paired boards are extremely strong and typically keep the two pair. For comparison with other Hold'em variants, see our pages on Omaha (four hole cards, must use exactly two) and standard Texas Hold'em.

Where to Play Crazy Pineapple

Crazy Pineapple is not a standard spread in most casino poker rooms. It is most commonly found in mixed-game rotations (alongside games like H.O.R.S.E.) and in home games. Some California card rooms and Las Vegas poker rooms spread it as part of a dealer's-choice rotation. If you want to play Crazy Pineapple in a casino, call ahead to ask if it is in the mixed-game lineup.

For online play, select poker platforms offer Crazy Pineapple in cash and tournament formats. The game's popularity online has grown as players seek Hold'em variants that offer more action. Browse our US casino directory to find poker rooms near you that may spread mixed games including Crazy Pineapple.

  • When do I discard in Crazy Pineapple?

You discard one hole card face down after the flop betting round completes, before the turn is dealt. The dealer will prompt you. Do not discard before the flop betting is finished.
