Super Fun 21 is a blackjack variant that trades the standard 3:2 blackjack payout for a set of liberal rules that give the player more options on every hand. Blackjack pays even money (1:1) except a diamond-suited blackjack, which pays 2:1. In exchange, you get late surrender on any number of cards, the ability to double on any total including after hits, and bonus payouts for 5-card 21 (2:1) and 6+ card 21 (3:2). Player 21 always wins regardless of the dealer hand. The result is a game with more decisions per hand and a house edge that rewards aggressive play. You'll find live tables at most major properties. If you know how to play blackjack, Super Fun 21 will feel like the same game with more buttons to push. The 5-card and 6-card 21 bonuses reward building longer hands, and the late surrender option means you can escape bad situations that would be automatic losses in standard blackjack. The trade-off is the even-money blackjack payout, but the math still works in the player favor when you take full advantage of the liberal rules.
Place your bet in the circle. The game plays like standard blackjack but with significantly more options on every hand.
Receive two cards face up. The dealer takes one up and one down. Card values are identical to standard blackjack.
Blackjack pays even money (1:1), not 3:2. A diamond-suited blackjack pays 2:1. This is the trade-off for the liberal rules.
You can double on any total -- not just 9, 10, and 11. You can double after splits and even after taking additional hits.
Late surrender is available on any number of cards, including after doubling. You can give up half your bet at any point.
Bonuses pay automatically: 5-card 21 pays 2:1, 6+ card 21 pays 3:2. Player 21 always beats the dealer, even if the dealer also reaches 21.
Super Fun 21 uses a standard 52-card deck, typically dealt from a 6- or 8-deck shoe. The blackjack payout is 1:1, with diamond-suited blackjacks paid at 2:1. The 5-card 21 pays 2:1, 6-card 21 pays 3:2, and any 21 with 7 or more cards typically pays 3:2 as well. Player 21 always beats the dealer regardless of whether the dealer also reaches 21.
Late surrender is available on any hand, including after doubling. You can double on any total -- hard or soft -- and you can double after splits. You can even take a hit and then double. The dealer plays by standard rules and hits soft 17 (H17) on most tables. The house edge with optimal play runs about 1.2 percent, which is competitive with standard 6:5 blackjack games.
Super Fun 21 is better than any 6:5 blackjack game and competitive with average 3:2 games for the recreational player. The even-money blackjack payout is offset by the liberal doubling rules, late surrender, and bonus payouts. For a skilled player using optimal strategy, the house edge of roughly 1.2 percent is higher than a good 3:2 game but lower than most 6:5 games.
Double far more aggressively than standard blackjack. You can double on any total, including soft hands, and even after taking hits.
Use late surrender freely. Surrender any hand where your chance of winning is below 25 percent, including after the first hit.
Never take even money on a blackjack against a dealer ace. Player 21 always wins, so insurance is irrelevant when you hold a natural.
Chase the 5-card and 6-card 21 bonuses. Hit hands you would stand on in standard blackjack if you are one or two cards away from a bonus.
Do not split 10s or 5s. Do split aces and 8s. You can double after split, which adds value to splitting marginal pairs.
The standard blackjack basic strategy chart does not apply. The doubling and surrender rules are too different.

The biggest strategic shift from standard blackjack is the doubling rule. You can double on a soft 13, a hard 8, or any total that has a reasonable chance of improving. The late surrender option is equally powerful: you can surrender any hand after seeing the draw, which lets you escape stiff totals against strong dealer up cards. The 5-card and 6-card 21 bonuses also change the math on hitting decisions. If you hold 16 against a dealer 6, hitting once to reach 18 or 19 is still risky, but the chance of drawing to a 5-card 21 and earning the 2:1 bonus can justify the play.
Compared to Spanish 21, Super Fun 21 offers even more liberal doubling rules (any total, even after hits) but lacks the rescue option and the suited 6-7-8 and 7-7-7 bonuses. Spanish 21 also uses a 48-card deck with no 10s, while Super Fun 21 uses a standard 52-card deck. The choice between the two comes down to which bonus structure you prefer.
No 10s in the deck, rescue option, suited 6-7-8 and 7-7-7 bonuses. Player 21 always wins.
Free doubles and splits using house-paid lammers. Dealer 22 pushes all live bets.
Play two hands and switch second cards. Even-money blackjack payout and push-22 rule.
The original 52-card game with 3:2 blackjack payout. Lower risk, fewer decisions per hand.
Super Fun 21 is a specialty pit game. It is less common than Spanish 21 or Free Bet Blackjack but appears at major casino destinations. Because the game uses unique rules that require dealer training, not every casino spreads it. Look for it in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and larger tribal casinos.
Before you sit, verify the bonus paytables for 5-card and 6-card 21 payouts and confirm the dealer hits soft 17. Browse our US casino directory to find venues near you.
Yes. You can double on any total -- hard or soft -- and you can double after taking hits and after splits. This is the most liberal doubling rule in any blackjack variant and the single biggest driver of the game value. Use it aggressively.
