Monticello is the county seat of Jefferson County in the Big Bend region of North Florida, approximately 25 miles east of Tallahassee via US-90. Jefferson County Kennel Club was the only licensed gaming venue in Jefferson County and served as a regional destination for gambling in the Tallahassee metropolitan area. The combination of slot machines and a sportsbook alongside greyhound racing gave the facility a broader gaming authorization than most Florida pari-mutuel venues.
