Gaming Floor
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s gaming floor held 660 slot machines and 84 table game positions. The table game spread included Baccarat, Big 6, Blackjack, Craps, Let It Ride, Pai Gow, Progressive 3-Card Poker, Race & Sports Book, Swim Up Gaming, Ultimate Texas Hold’em, and Video Poker.
Craps was available under the property’s gaming compact, providing the dice game unavailable at California state-licensed card rooms. The Race & Sports Book brought pari-mutuel racing and sports wagering onto the gaming floor alongside the casino operation.
Swim Up Gaming was a novelty format in which gaming terminals or tables were positioned at pool level, allowing players to wager while in the water — a format associated with a small number of destination casino resorts in the United States and uncommon in Northern California. The 84-table game count was large for a Yuba County property, reflecting the resort-scale ambitions of the operation during its active years.
History
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Wheatland opened in 1995, during the early period of California tribal gaming expansion. The property operated on the northern Sacramento Valley gaming circuit for a number of years before closing. The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino brand, originally founded as a restaurant chain in London in 1971, was acquired by the Seminole Tribe of Florida in 2007 and has operated globally under their ownership. The Wheatland property carried the Hard Rock brand during its operational period.
The closure left the Forty Mile Road site without an active gaming operator. Visitors who previously patronized this property should note that the Wheatland location is no longer in operation.
