Description

1972: The Farahi family purchased the Golden Road Motor Inn, a 142 room property, located three miles south of downtown Reno. Purchase included the Copper Kettle restaurant. The Farahi family later signed a franchise agreement with Travelodge.
Late 80’s: An agreement was reached with Choice Hotels International and the hotel was renamed Quality Inn. The Copper Kettle Restaurant was renamed the Purple Parrot Restaurant.
September 1990: Quality Inn breaks ground on Phase 1 expansion, including a 160-room hotel tower, 17,000 square feet of casino space, meeting and banquet facilities and a new restaurant, Café Alfresco. The expansion was completed April 1991.
An agreement was reached with Choice Hotels International and the hotel was renamed Clarion Hotel Casino.
December 1992: The Clarion Hotel Casino opens the Atlantis Seafood Steakhouse and Nightclub.
August 1993: Monarch Casino & Resort Inc. officially takes financial responsibility of Golden Road Motor Inn (d.b.a. Clarion Hotel Casino) through a public offering on the New York Stock Exchange. The Farahi family maintained a large majority of the stock. More than $15 million in funds were raised in the offering.
October 1993: The Clarion Hotel Casino breaks ground on a $30 million Phase II expansion. The expansion included a 283 room deluxe hotel tower, expanded casino and banquet facilities, Toucan Charlie’s Buffet & Grille, additional parking, a new third floor sun deck, heated pool and health club and a new family Entertainment Fun Center with more than 100 video and arcade games plus the Snack Bar & Soda Fountain. The expansion was completed November 17, 1994.
September 1995: The Clarion Hotel Casino Announces its Phase III $120 million expansion, including a new 27-story hotel tower with more than 900 rooms, an additional 25,000 square feet of casino space, three new restaurants, expanded health club and pool facilities and a 40,000 square foot event and entertainment center.
March 1996: The Monarch Casino & Resort Inc. Board of Directors made a decision to pursue establishing an independent identity. On April 29, 1996, a grand opening celebrated the arrival of Atlantis Casino Resort, a subsidiary of Monarch Casino & Resort Inc.
June 1998: Atlantis Casino resort breaks ground on Phase III, a $75 million portion of the slated $120 million expansion. Phase III is scheduled to be completed in stages.
March 1999: Sky Terrace opens as stage one of the expansion. This enclosed glass skyway spans South Virginia Street connecting the property with the expanded parking lot and features the Oyster Bar, Java Coast Espresso Lounge & Pastry Bar, and “Gaming with a View”.
July 1999: Grand opening of completed $75 million expansion. Property has 1000 guestrooms, Reno’s only Concierge Tower, seven restaurants, increased meeting space, expanded gaming facilities including a poker room and high limit slot area, a full-service business center, state-of-the-art health spa with indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, spa, styling salon and massage therapy.

With 32,000 square feet of casino action, Atlantis features 1,400 of the newest and hottest slots and video poker machines. Many of the new slots are interactive, play music and feature recognizable icons from the silver screen and from TV.
